What type of dentures are the best ?
A good denture is strong and natural looking, yet comfortable to wear and use. Dentures replace teeth function and appearance of natural teeth – for either a few teeth or a full arch of teeth.
In our opinion, chrome metal dentures are just that. When crafted and fitted well from an experienced dentist, they provide for a strong and sturdy denture, last long and most importantly – are comfortable to wear.
At Whites, our chrome metal dentures are surprisingly affordable, ranging from £850 to £1,450 typically. Call us to book an appointment with one of our dentists.
Types Of Dentures
Complete or Full Dentures
If you have lost all of your teeth on your upper or lower arch, complete dentures can replace your full arch. Complete dentures are custom made to fit snugly on your gum and jaw bone, enabling comfortable use and colour matched to your gums.
Partial Dentures
If you have lost one or more teeth, partial dentures can replace your missing teeth. Partial dentures are specifically designed to fit gaps created by your missing teeth, to seamlessly blend in with your remaining teeth.
What Are The Best Dentures In London ?
Acrylic dentures are made from hard acrylic material. Often used when a few natural teeth still remain. Cost effective denture option.
Flexible dentures are made of thinner thermoplastics like nylon. More comfortable to wear. Suited when a few natural teeth still remain.
Chrome dentures have a metal frame within. More comfortable and secure to wear. Can be used to replace any number of teeth.
Acrylic Dentures can replace any number of missing teeth. It’s worth noting however that acrylic dentures can be a little cumbersome and oral hygiene can often be more difficult. If a patients teeth are generally in poor condition or if they have very few natural teeth remaining, Acrylic Dentures are often the treatment of choice. Also, if several teeth need replacing, Acrylic dentures can be used.
Flexible dentures are usually made of thin thermoplastics (e.g. nylon), as compared to the thicker and often more rigid acrylic used in Acrylic Dentures. Patients often find Flexible Dentures a more comfortable fit than other removable dentures, especially so if the patient is still relatively new to wearing dentures. It is ideal for patients who have lost several but not all of their teeth.
In addition, partial dentures are usually made with metal parts, which can often be visible. Most Flexible Dentures do not use metal parts or frame, but instead use a durable plastic that snaps securely and comfortably into place around the patients existing teeth. The denture therefore looks and feels a lot more natural. Valplast Flexible partial dentures are increasing gaining popularity with our patients as a result. Unlike traditional bulky and ridged dental materials, Valplast dentures are made from a much more flexible plastic, fits neatly into the patient’s mouth and is virtually invisible to the eye. No unsightly metal clasps are required to keep them in place.
Chrome metal dentures can be used to replace any number of missing teeth. The framework used behind the teeth is a lot thinner than that used in Acrylic Dentures. Also, clasps are typically used to anchor the denture to the patient’s natural teeth. Chrome Dentures therefore tend to be more comfortable and also more secure than Acrylic Dentures. The benefits of Chrome Dentures are most noticeable when a patient has several natural teeth in good condition present. Oral hygiene is easier that Acrylic Dentures due to the minimal design of Chrome Dentures. Our patients who have used Chrome Dentures insist they would not want to use any other kind.

How Do Dentures Work ?
Dentures are a removable clinical device used to replace missing teeth. Dentures can either be complete or full dentures when they are used to replace all the teeth on an arch or partial dentures when they are used to replace a few missing teeth (the remaining teeth are still present). They are made from strong, natural looking materials to ensure they seamlessly blend in with your surrounding teeth or tissue.
At Whites Dental, we offer both complete and partial dentures at surprisingly affordable prices.
What Are The Most Comfortable Dentures To Wear ?
Chrome metal dentures tend to be the most sturdy, long lasting and achieve the best fit, providing for the most comfortable experience in our opinion. A denture is comfortable to wear when it fits snugly in the mouth. This snug, precise fit is achieved by the dentist and dental technician during the initial stage when the dentist takes measurements and impressions and then closely coordinates with the dental technician to manufacture the denture to those specifications. Dentures often have an inner lining that helps achieve this precise fit. Some dentures also have clasps.
It takes time for your mouth and gums to adjust to wearing the new denture and as a result to feel comfortable wearing them. The dentist will usually advise what aftercare is needed to help your new denture settle in.
Acrylic and flexible dentures are the other two denture alternatives usually available alongside. To learn more about dentural solutions you can ask our team.

Why do I need dentures ?
If you have missing teeth, it’s important to replace them – even if just one tooth is missing. Over time, missing teeth can impact teeth either side of the gap, adding additional strain on them. This can have undesirable consequences – your bite can become misaligned, in turn affecting your chewing and speaking. In addition, missing teeth and bone can make your face look older and saggy over time. You could also lose additional teeth. We recommend replacing missing teeth with dentures or implants.
What are the advantages of dentures ?
Dentures offer several benefits to replace missing teeth. These include – dentures will enable you to eat and speak comfortably. Your smile will look full and more natural. Your face will sag less. They will also give support to your adjacent teeth, reducing risk of further issues. Good quality dentures are durable, long lasting and are comfortable. For more advice on dentures, we recommend a consultation, which is available online.
Who is a suitable candidate for dentures ?
Patients who have one or more missing teeth, lost possibly due to decay or an accident, and wish to replace them with a removable appliance are good candidates for partial dentures. Also, patients who are wanting to replace all their upper or lower teeth can be good candidates for full dentures. Healthy gums and a strong jaw bone are required for good fitting snug dentures – partial or full. Both young and old patients can be suitable for dentures.
What are dentures made of ?
Dentures are usually made from acrylic, nylon or a combination of metal & nylon. Acrylic dentures tend to be harder and not as comfortable than other plastics. Metal dentures tend to be the sturdiest.
What are flexible dentures ?
Flexible dentures are exactly as the name suggests – more flexible, less rigid and more comfortable compared to other dentures. They are made from thinner thermoplastics such as nylon. They are much more popular compared to acrylic dentures that are harder and not as comfortable in the mouth as a result.
How do dentures stay secure in your mouth ?
Dentures fit snugly in the mouth as a result of a precise fit achieved by your dentist and the dental technician during the initial impressions, measurement and planning stage. Dentures have an inner lining that helps achieve this precise fit. Dentures can sometimes also be supported by a dental sealant that’s applied to the gums and grooves of the denture to keep the dentures securely in place. Some dentures have clasps to fit securely.
Can you eat while wearing dentures ?
Yes. Soon after having your dentures made, we recommend consumption of soft foods in small pieces to help you adjust to using your new dentures. As your new dentures settle in, you can consider eating a wider variety of foods. However, we advise exercise caution with foods that are hard or sticky.
How long do new dentures usually hurt?
For most patients, it takes time to adjust to wearing your new dentures – usually 2-4 weeks. Discomfort can be minimised if the dentist and dental technician are able to achieve a precise and snug fit for the denture. As your mouth and gums get used to the new denture, the comfort levels improve as well. The dentist will usually advise what aftercare is needed to help your new denture settle in.
