Dental Examination

The dental exam or consultation is our initial and thereafter regular chance to carry out a complete examination of your dental needs. We will look at all your teeth, checking the condition of the enamel and looking for signs of decay. We will also look for any plaque or tartar build-up, signs of staining or discolouration and check your gums for infections or gum disease. We’ll review your medical history and discuss the various treatment options available. During your check up, you will be able to discuss any questions and treatment options you have in mind.

Hygienist Clean / Dental Hygiene

Good oral hygiene is key to good dental health, helping prevent gum disease and decay which can eventually lead to tooth loss. The main benefit of hygiene clean is to prevent gum disease by professionally cleaning your teeth; this is achieved by a process called scaling and polishing. This process carefully removes any build-up of plaque or tartar above and below the gum using manual or ultrasonic instruments. The treatment also helps remove various types of stains from the teeth. Please see our blog articles  for a more detailed description. At Whites Dental, we provide a standard and platinum hygiene clean option.

Fillings

Fillings are a very effective way to repair damaged teeth, which could have occurred either due to decay or injury. We use a number of different kinds of fillings, these include composite fillings (also called white fillings), amalgam fillings (also called silver fillings). We’ll discuss the type of filing that suits you best during your visit.

Root Canal Treatment (RCT)

Root canal treatment (also called endodontics) is needed when the nerve of the tooth is infected through decay or injury; this may eventually lead to an abscess. If an RCT is not carried out, the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be removed.

The treatment aims to remove the infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. A RCT is a skilled and time-consuming procedure, usually taking two or more visits to the dentist.

Crowns & Bridges

Crowns and bridges can help strengthen broken or decayed teeth, restore function and keep the appearance of your smile looking as natural as possible. A crown is an artificial restoration that fits over a prepared tooth, helping make the remaining tooth strong and giving shape as that of a natural tooth. Crowns are an ideal way to restore teeth that have broken or have been weakened by decay or a large filling. A bridge is typically used where there are fewer teeth to replace or when the missing tooth is only on one side of the mouth.

At Whites Dental, we only use the highest quality material from experienced dental labs to ensure a natural look and excellent fit. Our Crown & Bridge materials include Porcelain Bonded, Ceramic, PMA, Lava, Zirconia, Gold, Emax and Maryland.

Dentures

A denture is a device which is worn to replace lost or missing teeth; it enables you to enjoy a healthy diet and smile with confidence. A full or complete denture replaces all of the natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaws. A partial denture fills in the spaces created by lost or missing teeth and is attached to your natural teeth with metal clasps.

At Whites Dental, we offer Acrylic, Metal and Flexible dentures, using only the highest quality materials.

Extractions

At Whites Dental, we always strive to preserve your natural teeth. However, sometimes it becomes necessary to remove a tooth. The most common reasons for needing an extraction include wisdom teeth removal, overcrowding of teeth and tooth decay or infection. Having a tooth out is the same as having an operation, as a result you must look after the area to speed healing and reduce risk of infection. Our dentist can give you a number of pointers during your visit.
