Metal Braces Vs Ceramic Braces

Metal Braces - Vs Ceramic Braces

Metal braces are very efficient at moving teeth and are also cost effective. Ceramic are more aesthetically pleasing, however, treatment times can be longer and the price higher. Often popular with adults.

Metal braces are very good at correcting most orthodontic conditions, including complex ones. They can correct overcrowding, gaps between teeth, protruding teeth, crossbite, overbite and underbites. The orthodontist can exercise a high level of control on teeth movement in order to correct these conditions. Metal braces are also quick to produce results, with reduced treatment times. And best of all, metal braces are one of the most affordable brace options available to the patient.

Ceramic braces are aesthetically more pleasing compared to metal braces given ceramic brackets are tooth coloured. They are therefore more discreet in comparison to metal braces. They can also be more comfortable to wear than metal braces as they are less painful usually. However, they can be a little less effective at moving teeth, especially when it comes to complex cases. Treatment times can often take longer than metal braces as well. They are usually more expensive than metal braces typically.

Are Ceramic Braces Better Than Metal Braces?

Dentist explaining ceramic braces are more discreet than metal braces

Ceramic braces work similarly to metal braces. The brackets, however, are tooth coloured instead of metal, making them more discreet to wear. Many of our adult patients prefer ceramic braces as a result. They are a good alternative for patients who prefer fixed braces, but prefer a more discreet option.

However, ceramic braces tend to be more expensive than metal braces. Despite the higher prices, many of our adult patients prefer ceramic braces over metal braces.

If you are looking for ceramic or metal braces, book a consultation with one of our dentists to see how they can help improve your smile.

Are Ceramic Braces More Expensive Than Metal Braces?

Ceramic braces are usually £300-500 more expensive than equivalent metal braces. This is because of the specialised tooth coloured or ceramic coloured brackets that ceramic braces use, making them more discreet than metal braces.

Metal braces are usually £2,795 and £3,995 in price. Ceramic braces are usually £2,995 and £4,195.

The price for both ceramic and metal braces depends on the nature of your teeth misalignment, the amount of teeth movement needed and the complexity of the case. To obtain an accurate price for both ceramic braces and metal braces, we advise booking a consultation with one of our dentists.

Metal Braces Or Ceramic Braces – What Should I Choose?

The key components of ceramic braces and metal braces are essentially the same. They both contain brackets that attach to the front of the teeth, an arch wire and elastic bands. The two key differences are that ceramic braces come with tooth-coloured braces and wire whereas metal braces employ metal brackets, making the ceramic brace system a lot more discreet. The second difference comes down to the cost of treatment – ceramic braces are usually more expensive than metal braces. It all therefore comes down to individual preference, whether you prefer discreetness or a cost-effective treatment. Our dentists can discuss your individual needs in more depth during the braces consultation.
