A dental veneer is a thin shell fixed to the front surface of the tooth in order to improve the aesthetic appearance of the tooth. The veneer is custom made from either porcelain or composite material.
Porcelain veneers are made from porcelain and are known to produce very natural looking results. They are also very sturdy, lasting 10-15 years. Many types of porcelain veneers are available – such as Lumineers (0.2mm thickness), Zeneers (porcelain-zirconium oxide), Emax (porcelain-ceramic) etc.
Composite veneers are made from composite resin material, usually in a laboratory. They also produce excellent smile makeovers – however, they are less sturdy than porcelain. They usually last 5-6 years and are also more cost effective.
Dental veneers, both porcelain and composite, can be used to align crowded or crooked teeth, close teeth gaps or hide tooth stains and discoloration.
